200 Year Anniversary of the Birth of Betsy Ross
stamp, Scott 1004.
About the inspiration for the feature stamp
: as we were taught in our history classes, Betsy Ross is best known as the seamstress who is widely credited for having  designed our nation's first American Flag

a red, white, and blue depiction of thirteen stars and thirteen stripes, to symbolize the
13 Original Colonies
who, collectively, won our nation's independence from Great Britain during the Revolutionary War
About the feature stamp, itself
: this attractive stamp, done in varying shades of red, showcases Betsy Ross displaying her newly sewn American Flag in the presence of General George Washington, as well as Founding Father, Robert Morris and George Ross, both of whom were signers of the Declaration of Independence.
About the hand drawn and hand painted cachet
: on this patriotically colored cachet, Mr. Wright drops in on Betsy Ross as she is actually stitching together that cherished flag which would come to represent our nation, throughout the world

About this cover's overall condition
: since this cover was designed on a 69 year old envelope, let's take a look at its overall condition together.
First off
, the cover's 4 corners are very well preserved for a cover from this era;
secondly
, with the exception of that one slight paint smear on the cover's flip side ( lower-left ) there no other smears, creases, tears, or anything of that nature;
third
, the envelope is virtually clean;
fourth
, there are no distracting flap marks to be concerned with;
and finally
, the envelope's actual flap is
un
sealed, with its original shiny glue fully intact.
All in all
, an exceptionally well-designed FDC, with its philatelic shout-out to a woman who helped define our nation.

the informed writer David Zubatsky wrote an incredibly in-depth, 9-page article about the life and the philatelic work of William Wright, who was born in 1882 and passed away in 1968, at the age of 86. Interestingly enough, Mr. Wright was a devoutly religious person. As a matter of fact, in 1904, at the age of 22, he traveled to New Zealand to perform missionary work. Sadly, though, it was there that Wright developed crippling arthritis, a condition which would adversely affect him for the remainder of his life. As far as Philately goes, Mr. Zubtasky lets us know that "
Wright began collecting stamps when he was in grade school
," and from there, William Wright went on to climb the philatelic ladder until he eventually became a stand-out cachet maker who lit up the Hobby with his artistic talents, for so many years, to the delight of so many appreciative collectors.
