    Description

    World War Two United States Merchant Marine officer hat badge.  1 1/4 inches tall and across in size.  Made for wear on the flat hat.  Multi piece construction with the anchor, the eagle / shield and the gold plated wreath all made as separate pieces and "married" together with two rivets.  Maker marked on the reverse side in two places - "VANGUARD N.Y." on the gilt backstrap section ... Also marked "VANGUARD" on the reverse side under the pin catch (mostly obscured).  There is also a "STERLING" mark right below the pin hinge on the right wing tip (reverse side).  Pin back with a roll locking pin catch.
